PATRICIA JOY NUMANN, MD
Patricia Joy Numann, MD, completed her surgical training at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in 1970, when few women became surgeons. She spent her entire academic career at her alma mater, retiring in 2007 as the Lloyd S. Rogers Professor of Surgery. Specializing in breast and endocrine surgery, Dr. Numann established the region’s first Comprehensive Breast Care Center in 1986. Her dedication to breast cancer research helped inspire the creation of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which has raised over $3 million since 2001. Dr. Numann was also a leader in surgical education, serving as President of the Association for Surgical Education and creating the ACS Fundamentals of Surgery Curriculum. A staunch advocate for gender equity, she co-founded the Association of Women Surgeons in 1981. Her activism and leadership earned her numerous accolades, including the ACS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 and honorary membership from the Association of Surgeons of India.

Amer Kaissi is an-award winning Professor of Leadership. He is an executive coach that has worked with hundreds of leaders and teams all over the world. Amer is the author of three books. His most recent book is “Humbitious: the power of low-ego, high-drive leadership.” He has been featured on the Harvard Business Review podcast and numerous other media outlets. He has spoken on leadership topics at more than 250 organizations and professional conferences. He lives in San Antonio with his wife and two teenagers.
